I wonder what your hopes and aspirations were for 2019. Are you now starting to bask in the glory of your significant achievements or are you just grateful to have made it through?

Does 2020 hold the hope and promise of greater things and if so, how will you make this happen? What will be different? Will you simply try harder or work smarter? What is your cunning plan? Do you even have a plan?

Do you want another year like 2019?

Success is not a mystery. In fact, I am persuaded that the overwhelming majority of people reading this article already have the knowledge they need to achieve the success they desire.

Well then, why is it that so few achieve the significant success that they truly desire?

I’d like to share with you two quotes from one of my heroes, Paul J Meyer, to give you an insight to this phenomenon.

Firstly, “Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and enthusiastically act upon, will inevitably come to pass.” And secondly, “Success is the progress realisation of worthwhile, pre-determined, personal goals.”

I encourage you to ‘meditate’ on these quotes and by this I mean to repeat them to yourself over a period of days. Contemplate them. Capture some notes on the thoughts you have and insights you gain to their meaning. When you do this you will be amazed at what you discover.

In this ‘fast-food’, ‘I want it now’ society that we live in, the art of contemplation has been lost on many and hence their opportunity for much of the success they are capable of is too.

The most significant factor in your future success will be the influences you choose to exposure your mind to. And by influences I am referring to what you watch, what you listen to, what you read and who you associate with.

Influence impacts our thinking and emotions and in turn drives our behaviour. Therefore, if you want the behaviour that produces success you need to start with those influences.

Men like Paul J Meyer have had a profoundly positive influence on my life. Who and what will you choose to influence you towards your success in 2020 and beyond?

The question to ask yourself is: “Are you prepared to invest in your future and undertake some personal development?” Would you commit to a coach or a mentoring program? People striving for more in all areas of life do it all the time: athletes; performers; business people… you?

You may be thinking “Can I afford it?” whereas perhaps a better question is, “Can I afford not to?”
